What We Believe
|
Christ Church exists to love God, love people, and make disciples of Jesus Christ. |
What follows are some highlights of what we believe. While it is not an exhaustive list, it may help you to understand more about our local congregation:
The Bible
-
The Bible originated from God given through chosen men.
-
It has the authority of God. The Scriptures are infallible and inerrant in their original manuscripts.
-
It is revelation: Not humanly derived, but is divine truth revealed by God through the authors.
-
It provides us with the basis for building our lives. We conform to it, it does not conform to us.
God
-
There is one true, holy God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
-
God is the creator of all things, thus manifesting the glory of His power, wisdom, and goodness. By His sovereign power He sustains His creation.
-
The term Trinity helps us to understand that God has a singular nature but a plural personality.
-
God crowned His creation with man and woman, fashioned in His own image, with whom He could have a relationship.
-
God continues to play an active role in relating to humankind.
Jesus Christ
-
He is the second person of the Trinity, begotten by the Father and united with humanity by a miraculous conception and virgin birth.
-
He was not created, but is eternally existent. He is both 100% God and 100% human.
-
He lived a perfect life and voluntarily took the sins of humanity upon Himself by dying on a cross as our substitute.
-
Each of us is assured of salvation as we place our trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
-
Jesus was resurrected from the dead and has ascended into heaven. He is alive and will come again to earth personally and visibly.
The Holy Spirit
-
The third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit has been sent into the world by the Father and the Son and lives inside of each person who trusts in the lordship of Jesus.
-
Indwelling believers, the Holy Spirit becomes the source of our assurance, strength and wisdom, and gives us spiritual gifts for the edification of the church body.
-
The Holy Spirit guides believers in understanding and applying Scripture to our lives.
-
Through the Spirit's power, it is possible for believers to lead a life of Christ-like character.
Salvation
-
The central purpose of God’s revelation in Scripture is to call people into relationship with Himself. Humankind defied God and chose to go their own way, alienating themselves from God. This is called the fall. All people since have suffered consequences of the fall and are in need of the saving grace of God.
-
We cannot earn our salvation by anything we do. It is a free gift of God.
-
Jesus Christ has paid the penalty for our sin. We can receive God’s forgiveness and live in a right relationship with Him by accepting His gift of grace. If we do not receive this gift of God, we are destined to live in hell eternally.
-
Even though we are assured of salvation through our trust in Jesus, we are still sinful and imperfect by our nature. As we continue to ask God to help us live a more Christ-like life, we are gradually transformed which culminates when we are taken into His presence to live forever.
